Tomorrow afternoon Wolverhampton Casuals take a break from cup action and return league action when we travel along the M54 to visit Telford Town for a North West Counties Football League Division One South fixture.
Telford Town have been in existence for just three seasons; they were previously playing under the name of Wellington Amateurs playing in The West Midlands Regional League Division One and Premier Division.
Following the name change at the beginning of the 2023/24 season Telford Town finish third in West Midlands Regional League Division One earning promotion into the Premier Division which they won the following season losing just one game to earn promotion into the North-West Counties Division One South for the start of the 2025/26 season. The Ams finished in a very creditable eighth place.
This season hasn’t started as well as the club would’ve wished they would have wanted to build on last season’s results, currently they are 18th division after eleven league fixtures in which they have lost six, drawn four and won a single game.
The season started with Shaun Ralph and his assistant Aaron Lescott leading the club, just 12 days into the season they left the club “By mutual consent”. Ten days later the club appointed ex Bilston Town manager Mike Dunn to take the club forward.
Since his appointment he has virtually changed the whole squad which will take time to gel as a team, new additions include ex Casuals player Charlie Swingwood who joined The Ams from Eccleshall, along with Issac Cooper and keeper Adam Jenkins both from Darlaston Town as well as Shaquille McDonald and Mitch Bradford both from Birmingham OJM.
The clubs last four league and cup fixtures have produced a home loss to Barnton (0-2), a win over promotion chasing AFC Bridgnorth on penalties after a 1-1 draw after full time. This was followed by a losing trip to Cheadle Heath Nomads (0-2) in the league. Back to cup football and another success, a1-0 midweek win over Market Drayton Town in the TJ Vickers Premier Cup. Last Saturday it was back to league at the Lionheart Security Services Stadium which saw the fixture with New Mills end in a 1-1 draw.
Tuesday evening once again at home this time against Shawbury United was the clubs worst defeat of the season losing 4-0 in the Edward Case Cup.
Since his appointment Mike Dunn and his management team are working hard to change the club’s fortune
Isaac Cooper is clearly a thread two opposition award of Man of the Match in just three starts shows, but there is no current top scorer because several players in the squad have each scored once.
Form goes out of the window in fixtures such as this and Telford Town will be looking to get their second league win of the season against Wolverhampton Casuals who exited the FA Vase after a 2-0 loss to Southwell City Kieran Cook was shown a red card, he will start his three game ban tomorrow.
Despite the loss the clubs Management team and the players have had an exceptionally good week after producing arguably their best complete performance of the Season playing with 10 men against the best defensive record currently in non league football.
Returning to the squad tomorrow with be the cup ties players along with possibly a new face or two.
