Cassies MD Steve Phillips looks at the teams development, growth & results since September

Simon Cox

The clubs Managing Director publishes a regular article on LinkedIn, this week's talks about the growth of the team & club.

It's been a month or so since I last posted. It's been busy. Alongside the day job where I see Walsall FC maintaining pace at the top end of the League 2 table, the Wolverhampton Casuals Football Club season continues to provide the usual, and new, challenges.

On the pitch. No complaints. During September and October, Cassies had 12 matches and with 10 Wins, 1 Draw and 1 Defeat, it would be hard to find too much to moan about in terms of the on field progress. (Although, the draw was a 3-1 lead that slipped way in the last 10 minutes and the defeat was in the FA Vase, again, two goals in the last 10 minutes when we looked like we might hold onto a draw after a first half sending off left us down to 10 men!).

Off the Pitch, work is continuous, operationally, and although the ownership change is delayed, with legal and FA regs to work through, it is the reality of the tough sell of non league that is the hardest fight.

We started the season with good crowds, over 200 in early September, but meeting the running costs of the club are tough when, as last week v Crewe FC, we get less than 50 through the gates. This week was a little better, v Allscott, with 77 attendees, but our mid term aim is to regularly hit the 150 mark.

The 77 in attendance this week were treated to a comprehensive performance, a tough, non league match against a team who had won 6 league matches in succession, players who earn expenses, battling and giving their all for local bragging rights. Cassies secured a 4-0 victory to move within six points of the league leaders (with 3 games in hand).

I believed attendance would steadily grow as performances improved. We have 15 wins in 19 games. Have won 7 out of 8 cup matches, still competing in 5 cup competitions and have won 5 consecutive league games.

In the last 2 weeks, Wolves playing at home has been a factor, but, we are also still to have a match sponsor this season. With over 6,000 social media followers and a team that is growing in stature, a club with new ownership on it's way. we have plenty of opportunity for local businesses to be part of this. wolvescasuals@outlook.com for more details.
