Wolverhampton Casuals 1 Coleshill 4

Walsall Senior Cup 1st Round

Venue: Brinsford Stadium, Brinsford Lane

Date: 4th November 2025

Wolverhampton Casuals bowed out of the Walsall Senior Cup at the first-round stage, but there was plenty to admire in a spirited display against higher-ranked Coleshill Town.

The Cassies, under the guidance of newly appointed manager Dom Heath, produced a performance full of energy, commitment, and promise – one that bodes well for the weeks ahead.

On a night when the rain rarely relented and many were surprised the game went ahead, both sides adapted well to the slick surface. The conditions made for an entertaining encounter, combining sharp passing with some full-blooded, old-fashioned tackles.

Coleshill’s lively winger Gyasi was an early threat, forcing Casuals keeper Oseland into a smart near-post save after just seven minutes. However, the visitors took the lead on 17 minutes when Gyasi broke down the right and delivered a low cross that Dunkley turned home from close range.

Despite the setback, the Cassies grew into the contest. Oseland was alert to deny further chances, while Jackson tested Higgs in the Coleshill goal with a well-struck volley on the half-hour mark. The home side’s best chance of the first half came on 34 minutes when Reinaldo sent Poskitt racing clear down the left; the forward cut inside but saw his effort roll agonisingly wide of the far post.

Casuals emerged from the break with renewed purpose. Beckford almost levelled the scores with a superb 25-yard free kick in the 51st minute, forcing Higgs into a full-stretch save. Their perseverance was rewarded soon after when Letford was brought down by the Coleshill goalkeeper, earning a penalty. Kourouyianni stepped up and calmly slotted home off the post to bring the Cassies deservedly level.

Unfortunately for the hosts, parity was short-lived. Dunkley restored Coleshill’s advantage with a smart finish inside the box before Gyasi, who remained a constant menace, made it 3–1 on 75 minutes. Substitute Rix added a fourth three minutes later, converting from close range after a cross from the right.

Even at 4–1 down, the Cassies refused to wilt. Poskitt came close to a late consolation, his 30-yard strike tipped over the bar by the impressive Higgs.

Despite the final scoreline, this was an encouraging performance from Wolverhampton Casuals, who showed heart, organisation, and flashes of attacking quality against a side from two levels higher. With Dom Heath now at the helm, the Cassies can take plenty of positives into the league campaign, confident that better results will soon follow.
