Ashville 2–1 Wolverhampton Casuals

North West Counties Edward Case – 1st Round

Venue: Villa Park, Wallasey

Date: 18th October 2025

Wolverhampton Casuals’ North West Counties Edward Case campaign came to an early end after a frustrating 2–1 defeat away to Ashville in the first round. Despite a bright start and an early lead, the Cassies were undone by defensive lapses and a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

Casuals began sharply and were gifted the perfect start in the 4th minute. Ashville goalkeeper Draper fumbled a routine ball, allowing Hesketh to tap home from close range and put the visitors ahead.

The lead, however, was short-lived. Ashville drew level when Cahill pounced on a loose clearance and smashed the ball past Oseland after the Casuals defence failed to close him down effectively.

In the 38th minute, the home side turned the game around. A mix-up between Oseland and his back line allowed Rowland to slot home and put Ashville 2–1 up — a lead they would not relinquish.

The second half started evenly, with both sides enjoying spells of possession. The game shifted again on 61 minutes when Ashville’s Welding received a second yellow card, reducing the hosts to ten men and giving Casuals a route back into the contest.

Despite dominating possession in the closing stages, the Cassies were unable to capitalise. Chances fell to Poskitt, Letford, and Hesson, but none could find the finishing touch to force an equaliser.

In the end, it was another disappointing afternoon for Casuals, who will rue defensive mistakes and missed opportunities in a match that was there for the taking.
