Cammell comeback gives Hipkin the Hump

Casuals threw away a 2-0 half time lead and exited the Macron Cup, going down 3-2 to a determined Cammell Laird.

Confidence was high after two consecutive cup victories and Cassies dominated the first half.

On 26 minutes, Phil McKerdy rose highest to nod home from a corner and Jon Letford extended the lead from close range after 32 minutes.

Cammell Laird rang the changes with four half time substitutions and the change of formation and added pace up front proved to be Cassies undoing.

The arrears were reduced after 57 minutes and a 64th minute headed equaliser from a corner levelled the game.

Cassies had chances to get back ahead, Hesketh firing over after a run into the box and a Letford effort headed off the line with Forbes snatching at the rebound sending his shot off target.

Cassies finally fell to a disputed 88th minute penalty. Kourouyiamni adjudged to have challenged late in a headed duel that looked a marginal decision.

Cassies manager, Chris Hipkin was unsurprisingly disappointed with the late penalty but also that the second half performance was below the standard set in the first half.

Cassies travel to Ashville away next week in the Edward Case Cup.
