Wolverhampton Casuals returned to league action yesterday with a a deserved 3–1 victory at Shawbury United in windy conditions that contributed to a scrappy opening.

The clubs Management Team had a full squad to select from, making two changes to the starting line up, in came Cian McIntosh and Jake Pearson, along with new signing Leo Wood, Leo Gill & Richard David dropped down onto the bench.

The game started with a strong wind whipping macros the ground, Casuals created the first chance after eight minutes when McIntosh, played in by Cook, saw his effort saved at the post by Shawbury goalkeeper Boswell. Debutant Wood then fired over from 22 yards after being released by Cook.

Shawbury’s Issah pulled a 20-yard effort wide, while Pickford appealed unsuccessfully for a penalty after going down in the Casuals box on 21 minutes. Two minutes later, Cook went through on goal but Boswell gathered his shot.
Casuals took the lead in the 29th minute. A Lewis Gill corner was cleared to the edge of the box, where McIntosh placed a composed finish beyond Boswell.

The hosts levelled shortly after the restart when Sowe raced through and slotted the ball past Amos.
Casuals responded immediately. On 48 minutes, Gill’s free kick from the right was punched weakly by Boswell, allowing Podmore to turn the loose ball into the net.

Boswell denied Cook three minutes later, diving bravely at the striker’s feet after Wood had played the ball across the box. However, the keeper could do nothing to prevent Casuals extending their lead in the 57th minute.
A Gill free kick from near halfway was delivered into the area and, after Evans was adjudged to have handled, the referee awarded a penalty. Cook converted emphatically from the spot.

Casuals almost added a fourth moments later when Kirton broke through, but Boswell made another important save. The visitors controlled the remainder of the match, with Amos having little to do as the Casuals defence comfortably dealt with Shawbury’s attacks.
The result secured all three points for the Cassies after a strong second-half performance.
