Casuals fire three past Nomads to rise to the top of the table

Three first half goals all within 10 minutes gave Cassies the points

Wolverhampton Casuals made it three wins from three in the North West Counties Division One South with an impressive 3-0 victory away to Cheadle Heath Nomads in baking sunshine.

The clubs Management team were forced into their first change to the starting XI this season when Jake Pearson was unavailable, James Rowland stepped up from the bench and Liam Matthews who was returning from suspension came in to sit on the bench

The scorching conditions and rock-hard playing surface made it difficult for either side to establish any real rhythm, with the contest largely dominated by aerial duels. Casuals adapted best to the conditions, winning the majority of the physical battles and proving clinical when opportunities came their way.

The visitors took the lead after 14 minutes. Spotting the run, Rowland threaded an excellent pass through the Nomads defence for Cook, who kept his composure to calmly slot beyond Jones and open the scoring.

Just three minutes later, Cook doubled both his tally and Casuals’ advantage. Latching onto a loose ball from 12 yards, the striker finished instinctively despite appeals for offside from the home side, with referee Bateson unmoved as the goal stood.

Casuals wrapped up all three points in the 23rd minute. Liam Kirton gave Jones no chance, guiding a composed finish into the bottom corner to cap an excellent first-half display.

The pattern of the game remained largely unchanged after the interval, with the difficult surface continuing to prevent flowing football and aerial contests dominating proceedings. Casuals remained organised throughout, controlling the game without ever looking troubled.

In truth, goalkeeper Amos was little more than a spectator, finishing the afternoon without being called upon to make a single save as the Casuals defence produced another assured performance.

A comfortable afternoon in testing conditions sees Wolverhampton Casuals continue their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 campaign, taking maximum points from another difficult away fixture and building momentum ahead of the weeks to come.
