Wolverhampton Casuals made the perfect start to their 2026/27 North West Counties Division One South campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory away to league newcomers Crewe FC in Dean Gill’s first competitive match since returning for his second spell in charge.

A first-half brace from Kieran Cook put the visitors firmly in control before a stunning strike from Jake Pearson sealed all three points after the break.

Casuals took the lead in the 16th minute with a well-worked move. Jake Pearson delivered an inviting cross to the far post where Cook was perfectly placed to apply the simplest of finishes, leaving Crewe goalkeeper Kirwin with no chance.

The hosts responded positively, with Cooke proving to be Crewe’s creative spark in midfield, but Casuals remained disciplined and resilient at the back, limiting the home side to very few clear-cut opportunities.

Just before half-time, Casuals doubled their advantage. Archie Kirton produced a delightful through ball to release Cook, who kept his composure before smashing his finish beyond Kirwin in the 43rd minute to claim his second goal of the afternoon.

Crewe continued to battle after the interval but were unable to find a way through an organised and determined Casuals defence, which stood firm throughout.

The visitors wrapped up the victory in spectacular fashion on 68 minutes. Following some excellent build-up play around the edge of the penalty area, the ball found its way to Pearson, who unleashed a magnificent 25-yard strike into the top corner, giving Kirwin absolutely no chance and putting the result beyond doubt.

Casuals managed the closing stages professionally, seeing out the game in comfort to secure an excellent opening-day win and a clean sheet.
A confident display, three well-taken goals and a solid defensive performance ensured Dean Gill’s second spell in charge began in the best possible fashion.
