Tomorrow Wolverhampton Casuals return to Brinsford Stadium for their first Saturday North West Counties Football League home game of the season, when they take on Alsager Town.

Alsager Town come into tomorrow’s fixture after losing 3-2 in a close game to current league leaders AFC Bridgnorth last Saturday who replaced the Casuals at the top of the able following after their 4-1 loss at Sandbach United. Alsager Town are currently 17th in the league with 4 points, an opening day 2-2 draw against Dawley Town after conceding two late goals secured their first point of the season. Four lost games followed, three in the league Brereton Social (0-2), Telford Town (2-3), Stafford Town (2-3) and a 3-0 reverse at Dudley Town in the FA Vase.

The Bullets only win of the season was after a midweek trip to Cheadle Heath Nomads which resulted in a 4-1 convincing win.

Alsager AFC were formed in 1965 after Alsager Institute and Alsager United joined together to form Alsager AFC. The club acquired their current ground at Wood Lane in 1968. In the early years the club folded and was reborn at Alsager Town in 1986, they played in the Staffs County League and in the Mid Cheshire League where they earned promotion into the North West Counties League. After a third placed finish in Division One they were promoted into The Northern Premier League. The Bullets were relegated two seasons later after a 14th place finish.

The club returned to the North West Counties League Premier Division where they remained for eight seasons before being relegated into Division One at the end of the 2015/16 season. They have remained in the Division ever since.

Players to watch out for tomorrow are current top scorers Fraser Geddes with three goals in four games, Luke Moran and Ivan Otono are both on two. Irrespective of previous results, tomorrow promises to be a tuff game for both teams, Alsager Town will want to climb the table whereas Wolverhampton Casuals will want to return to winning ways.

After last weeks 4-1 loss at Sandbach United ending of the clubs’ unbeaten away record and the clubs reign at the head of the table, Dean Gill and his management team have been working hard all week to make sure the players have the best opportunity to return to winning ways. We all know no club wins anything with their performances in August, but what is important teams have to stay in touch with the top six to ensure a good season. It is hoped Archie Kirton will have recovered from his injury that caused him to miss out last Saturday along with other squad members that were suffering knocks and strains.
