Wolverhampton Casuals start the new season with a trip to Crewe Football Club, who were promoted from The Cheshire League Premier Division after finishing in fifth place last season.

Wolverhampton Casuals go into the new season with a completely new management and squad led by Dean Gill and the club hopes that Dean replicates his success in his second tenure at the club, after earning a promotion through COVID by virtue of the clubs results and position during the two curtailed seasons.

Tomorrow’s opponents Crewe were formed in 1988 when they joined the Mid Cheshire League Division Two, there were several promotion’s and relegations between Division One & Two. In 2014 they were promotion into The Cheshire League Premier Division

In the first season the club finished fourth and last season was their second highest finish in fifthh place, winning 15 of their 30 games. This will be the first time that the club has played in The North West Counties League and at Step 7 on The NLS

In the summer, joint managers Adam Vickers and Joe Pointon have kept the majority of last seasons squad but have been actively recruiting new members including Oliver Jones, Sean Cooke and Samuel Newman along with Alexanda Nwachukwu and goal-keeper Jacob Kerwan.

Crewe’s pre-season consisted of six fixtures starting with a 5-1 loss at home to Nantwich, a 1-0 win over relegated Winsford United from The Northern Premier League followed with two games of which results could not be found against AFC Norton and Llangefni Town but games against Lostock Gralam ended in a 1-1 draw and their final pre-season game against Denton Town ended in a 3-1 win for Crewe.

Wolverhampton Casuals meanwhile have had a good pre-season and have built a squad which only contains three players from last seasons squad that finished fourteenth in their first season in The North West Counties League. The clubs management team will be looking to take performances in the last two pre-season games into tomorrow’s opening fixture of the season.
