Tomorrow, Wolverhampton Casuals take a break from North West Counties Football League action when they play their first Cup game of the season when Hellenic Division One side Studley travel to Brinsford Stadium for a Second Qualifying Round FA Vase Cup tie.

Studley last season were relegated from the Midland Football Premier Division after finishing bottom. The FA in their traditional league restructuring at the end of each season moved Studley back into The Hellenic League where they were promoted from into the MFL after finishing as Hellenic Division One Champions after the 2021/22 season.

The Bees have started well and are currently in 6th place having played eight league fixtures, won four, drawn one and lost three, six points off the top spot which is occupied by Alcester Town with 19 points after eight games.

Wolverhampton Casuals were awarded a bye in the First Qualifying Round of this seasons’ FA Vase competition, Studley however welcomed North West Counties Football League side Market Drayton Town to their Beehive home winning 3-1.

Second year Solihull Moors Academy member Josef Edwards tops the current scoring chart with four goals in eight league fixtures, followed by colleague Ashton Lance-Pencheon with three and first year scholar Elijah Hyde-Moore with two, along with second year scholar Ethan Evans. These are the players to look out for in tomorrow’s fixture along with third year Solihull Moors scholars Diego Brown and Flynn Coffey.

In last season’s FA Vase, both clubs went out in the First Qualifying Round, Studley losing at Brockton 3-2 whereas Wolverhampton Casuals were beaten 2-0 by local rivals Dudley Town who went into the second round of the FA Vase before being knocked out by Sherwood Colliery.

Tomorrow promises to be a difficult game for Wolverhampton Casuals with selection issues due to players being Cup tied and availability together with injuries, so manager Dean Gill and his management team will have to juggle the squad to ensure that clubs progress in the competition and especially after the disappointment of last Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Brinsford Stadium against local rivals Bilston Town after being 3-1 up just after half time.
