The 2006/2007 season was a special time for our president as he reached the incredible milestone of 50 years service with Wolverhampton Casuals Clive Hammond has been player, skipper, committee member, chairman and president since he joined the club in season 1956-57 season. At the age of 22 he played his first game for the Casuals against Tamworth Grammar School Old Boys in the 1956-57 season . What a good signing this turned out to be, as he played for 19 years, representing the very high standards of performance and sportsmanship that you would expect from such a devoted footballer.
A successful team was reaching its sell by date as Clive arrived at the club and he was a pivotal figure in the team re-building that was necessary. He remembers a Birmingham Amateur Football Association Cup final against Aston Villa, which the Casuals lost 3-1 after extra time during his best years at the Casuals, he was selected to play for the Birmingham A.FA. League representative side, a just and well deserved reward for his outstanding ability. He played an instrumental role in securing and developing our current ground. He also made a very important appointment for the club in bringing Sam Plant to manage the first team. Within a short time, the club were winning trophies and the important decision was made to move into the West Midlands League.
As the club progressed to the Premier Division, Clive made sure that we met the ground requirements set by the league. The stand, the floodlights, the changing rooms and the general ground development have all been achieved through our President’s dedication to Wolverhampton Casuals.
