New Season New Faces

As the new season is less than 2 weeks away we see some old faces coming back to the club and a host of new faces joining the club for the first time.

The 2009/2010 season provided a lot of change for the 1st team squad and management team a like. The choping and changing continued over the summer but 1st Team Manager Mick Turner thinks this is for the better.

Over the closed season Steve Nichols (A*S Manager) has left the club, but Mick has not wasted any time in bringing in a new members to the team. Mark Cox, Alden Christie and Jon Turner have been introduced into the 1st Team set up for the coming season.

Mark Cox has had previous experience with many professional clubs in coaching and managing roles, and will work along side Mick with the running of the team and coaching of the players.

Alden Christie and Jon Turner have been given more hands on roles in the 1st Team this season. Jon Turner will continue to manage the Youth Team of the club and will assist Mark with the coaching of the 1st Team squad. Likewise Alden will now provide his physiotherapy services to both the Youth and 1st Team squads.

On the playing side we have seen a lot of old players who played for the clubs Youth Team 2/3 season ago return to the club and participate in pre-season training with the 1st Team squad. Mick and Mark are looking to see if the players can continue to impress in the pre-season games prior to the start of the season.

Mick thinks that the 1st Team squad is looking stronger and better prepared than it did this time last year and hopes the team make a good start to the season.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
